If you’ve ever finished a treatment and felt completely drained — like you’ve given every ounce of your energy away — then this is for you.
Before Mooeys was a brand, a franchise or a training provider, it was a feeling. And that feeling came from a place of knowing the beauty industry inside out.
When I first started dreaming up Mooeys, I was running the Aqua Sana spa at Center Parcs. A £5 million operation with 150 staff. It was high pressure, relentless and all-consuming. I loved the industry, but I could also see the cracks. The burnout. The emotional load. The unspoken expectations placed on therapists to always give more.
And as a professional woman in my thirties, I realised something else too — I didn’t have a salon I wanted to go to myself.
I didn’t want a wanky salon where therapists looked me up and down if I turned up without a full face of makeup. But I didn’t want a budget salon either. I wanted quality, professionalism and warmth, without judgement. And I certainly didn’t want a nail bar – we all know how bad they are!
I wanted somewhere fun. Somewhere comfortable. Somewhere where I could turn up in my scruffs or dressed to the nines and be treated exactly the same. Somewhere where the kettle was on, the chat flowed, and no one cared about titles, money or status.
So I built it.
Mooeys was created in my flat in Frome, in spare moments between work, life and exhaustion. It wasn’t glamorous, and head office still isn’t. (It’s a spare room, and it always makes me laugh when people imagine something shinier.) But it was intentional.
From day one, Mooeys was designed to be different.
We built salons that felt like safe spaces. Places where therapists didn’t have to put on a front, and clients could just be human. Where banter was welcome. Where conversations mattered. Where care wasn’t rushed.
Because beauty therapists aren’t “just” therapists.
We’re listeners.
We’re holders of secrets.
We’re often the first to hear the big life news — pregnancies, engagements, weddings, breakups, grief.
We absorb energy all day long.
We give, and give, and give again.
And yet, we rarely talk openly about that side of the job.
Since having my first baby in 2015, Mooeys has grown in ways I couldn’t have imagined. We’ve opened salons, launched franchises, developed products and built training programmes to support teams properly. Growth has been exciting, but it’s also taken me further away from the treatment room, the salon floor and the everyday conversations that made Mooeys special in the first place.
I missed it.
I missed the salons. I missed the team. I missed the real chats.
Moo Chats was created as a way back.
This podcast is an intentional return to the heart of Mooeys and the people who make it what it is. It’s a space for the conversations we have every day but rarely share publicly. The funny ones. The sweary ones. The serious ones. The honest ones.
We’ll be talking to therapists, managers, franchise partners and industry voices about what it’s really like to work in beauty. About being touched out. About shaking off energy at the end of the day. About burnout, boundaries, growth, confidence and care.
We’ll talk about running salons, managing teams, returning to work after maternity leave, building careers in beauty and finding a place where you feel supported rather than judged.
Moo Chats is recorded inside our salons, because that’s where these conversations belong. It’s not polished. It’s not scripted. It’s real.
And if you’ve ever felt unseen in this industry, unheard, or like you were giving more than you were getting — this podcast is for you.
Because Mooeys has always been about creating spaces where people feel safe, supported and valued. For our clients, yes — but just as importantly, for our teams. Moo Chats is an extension of that belief.
So whether you’re a therapist at the start of your career, a seasoned pro, a manager, or someone quietly wondering if there’s a better way to do this job — pull up a chair.
Grab a cuppa.
Come inside the Herd.
And let’s have a chat.
