By Mooeys Founder (that’s me!)
I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with the fabulous Katie Godfrey recently, and let me tell you—it was one of those conversations that leaves your mind buzzing for days. We dove deep into the future of beauty, exploring how AI and technology are reshaping the industry and what it might look like in the next 5–10 years. From high-tech skincare scanners to full-body diagnostic booths, the possibilities are both exciting and thought-provoking.
But at the heart of our discussion? A shared belief that human connection will become even more valuable as automation becomes more prevalent.
What Can Robots Really Do?
Some treatments and services are just too intricate or too emotional for machines to replicate—at least anytime soon. Gel nails, hairdressing, pedicures, and PMU (permanent makeup) all require serious skill, attention to detail, and… let’s face it… a whole lot of human connection. Can a robot reassure a nervous client? Can it adapt mid-treatment when your client changes their mind? Not likely.
On the flip side, things like massage, hair washing, and even reception or admin roles? Those might be first to go. We’re already seeing automated check-ins, online bookings, and AI receptionists. It’s not just coming—it’s here.
Laser Machines, AI, and High-Tech Treatment Rooms
One idea I shared (and yes, it’s a little sci-fi, but hear me out!) is the concept of a futuristic laser machine. Imagine a stand-up sunbed-style unit where you input your details, have your skin and hair type scanned, and receive a full-body laser treatment….no therapist required. It’s fast, discreet, and likely much cheaper.
If this becomes reality, waxing might take a backseat for many clients. But for those who value the care and comfort of a human therapist? That experience could become a luxury, something people actively seek out for the personal touch.
Katie also raised an incredible vision for skincare: full skin scanners paired with prescription services. Picture walking into a shop, entering your budget, age, and skin concerns, then having your skin scanned by a high-tech machine. Within minutes, you receive a tailored prescription—and perhaps even have your products bagged up and handed over to you on the spot! It’s efficient and personalised, but it raises an important question: where does the role of skincare specialists fit in? Our knowledge, care, and intuition will be more important than ever to help clients navigate these options.
The Doctor’s Surgery Reinvented
Our conversation even wandered into healthcare—because why not?! Imagine full-body scanners capable of diagnosing you within seconds. You step into a booth, get scanned from head to toe, and receive a complete report with suggested treatments or medications.
While this could streamline clinical processes, it’s clear that personal care will remain essential. Just as nurses will still be vital in healthcare settings for their empathy and attention to detail, therapists in beauty will play an irreplaceable role in delivering comfort and connection alongside results.
The Future of Training
One of the most exciting developments lies in education. It’s already possible to create virtual training programs using AI-powered tools that turn scripts or recordings into animated courses with voiceovers. You could write up your course outline, film a few treatments, and have an online programme ready to go in no time.
This opens up incredible opportunities for accessibility and scalability, allowing more people to learn at their own pace from anywhere in the world. But we must remember that watching isn’t doing; hands-on experience will always be vital for mastering skills. There’s nothing quite like learning directly from someone who has stood where you’re standing, a blend of digital tools with personal mentorship is where the magic lies.
So… How Do We Prepare?
Let’s be real—technology isn’t going anywhere. The businesses that will thrive in the future are the ones that embrace the changes and double down on what makes them truly special: the human connection.
So what can we do?
Start thinking about where tech can support your business, not take it over.
Offer experiences that go beyond the treatment itself—think community, warmth, and personal care.
Stay curious. Keep learning. Keep evolving.
Efficiency is great. But warmth, care, and connection? That’s what people will be willing to pay more for in the years to come. That’s what will set you apart.
A Final Thought
This conversation with Katie was honestly one of my favourites! We explored wild ideas, had plenty of laughs, and left feeling genuinely inspired about what’s ahead for our industry. You’ll be able to hear it all on the Life of KG Podcast in the next few months, so keep an ear out for it!
In the meantime, I wanted to open this conversation with you too:
How could AI and technology affect your beauty business in the future? What can you do now to prepare for it?
Let’s not fear what’s coming…let’s adapt, evolve, and lead the way forward together.
We’ve got this!
Amy x
