On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of working with some incredible people to help me reflect on my personal and business values.

Now, this isn’t something I had really thought about before. Don’t get me wrong—I’ve spent loads of time developing Mooeys’ values for our clients and team. In fact, I’d say it’s been a priority. Our values are proudly displayed in every salon, we teach them in management training, and they guide everything we do.

But, personal values? I hadn’t given them the same attention—until now.

Over the past year, I’ve been fortunate to work closely with an amazing woman named Nicole. Nicole is rock solid in her values, and she refers to them constantly, both in her work and personal life. It got me thinking…

What Are My Values?

I thought I knew who I was and what I stood for. But could I actually put it into words beyond the typical ‘Integrity’ or ‘Honesty’ that we all tend to fall back on?

Nicole, on the other hand, has two laminated cards on her desk—one for her personal values and one for her business values. Every decision she makes, she checks against those cards, ensuring that they align with what matters most to her. I’ve been intrigued by this approach for a while now.

Recently, I found myself struggling with some of my suppliers. Their decisions were affecting my business in ways that felt completely out of my control. I’ll give you a couple of examples:

One of my fulfilment centres was damaging my stock and refused to take responsibility for it, so I moved to a new one. Another supplier, the company that manufactures my MOOSKIN products, changed their policies, making production more difficult. When I raised my concerns, they dismissed me with a ‘take it or leave it’ attitude.

These situations left me feeling challenged and frustrated. I knew I needed to get to the root of it.

Enter the Laminated Cards…

So, I asked Nicole about her laminated cards and how I could get some of my own. She shared her story with me and introduced me to the brilliant Andy Rivers, an NLP Practitioner, Hypnotherapist, and Reiki Master. Andy’s expertise is in helping people tap into their subconscious to uncover what really matters to them—their core values.

I was in!

In true business style, I immediately started thinking about how this process could benefit other business owners like me. Imagine having your values clearly laid out on a laminated card, helping you make decisions on everything from partnerships to business growth. For me, it felt like a chance to dig deeper and prepare for the next exciting chapter of my life, both professionally and personally.

Maybe it’s because I’ve hit the ripe old age of 43, but I felt ready to know myself on a whole new level.

The Experience

Andy guided me through a two-hour session, asking questions designed to bypass my overthinking brain and tap into my gut instincts. I just had to be open (not the easiest at first, mind you!) and answer honestly, without second-guessing myself.

By the end of the session, I had my top 10 personal and business values, and honestly—it blew my mind.

What I thought might come up—like money—didn’t even make the list. Instead, the things that truly matter to me, things I’ve felt but hadn’t fully articulated, came to the surface. It was an incredible experience, and I would recommend it to anyone, especially business owners.

Whether you’re building a business, entering a new partnership, or growing a leadership team, knowing your core values will help you align with the right people and decisions. It’s pretty magical, really, which is why I wanted to share it with you.

My Values, in 7 Words

For those who know me, you know I’m an open book. So here they are—my top 5 values, both personally and in business:

Business Values:
Purpose | Happiness | Love | Joy | Authenticity

Personal Values:
Love | Happiness | Belonging | Authenticity | Freedom

And there you have it—me, in seven words! I’ll be laminating these bad boys and putting them on my desk, ready to help guide me in making any big decisions that come my way.
